West Fargo wins state Legion baseball championship
MINOT, N.D.—West Fargo defeated Minot 8-5 Wednesday to win the North Dakota Class AA American Legion state baseball tournament.
The Patriots last won the state title in 2012.
Jake Faircloth went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to lead West Fargo, while Andrew Enno added a hit and two RBIs. Tristen Roehrich went 3-for-3 with an RBI, and Alex Urlaub and Brayden Jacobson each drove in a run.
Pitcher Drake Flesche, who was named the player of the tournament, got the final five outs for West Fargo.
Carson Tonini drove in two runs to lead Minot, while Jack Plemel added two hits and an RBI.
Patriots head coach Jordan Rheault wants to see his offense continue to produce.
"We just gotta keep hitting at a high level," Rheault said. "We need to do a few things situationally better, executing with guys in scoring position or bunting or getting contact to the opposite side."
West Fargo advances to the Central Plains Region tournament in Dickinson, N.D., where it begins play on Wednesday, August 8.

Fargo Post 2's run of three straight state championships came to an end Wednesday after West Fargo claimed an 11-1 win in an elimination game.
West Fargo pounded out 11 hits and scored four runs in the fifth inning to end the game due to the 10-run rule.
Jake Faircloth had one hit, one RBI and scored four runs for West Fargo. Brayden Jacobson went 2-for-3 with two runs. Andrew Enno went 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Alex Urlaub went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
Ryan Bourassa pitched all five innings, allowing only four hits, while striking out five.
