FARGO - It's was a big day for college basketball across the nation as Division 1 teams could begin practice Tuesday.

This is a big year for the Bison.

NDSU head coach Dave Richman doesn't have a senior on his roster as he begins his fifth year.

He has six newcomers on the roster, including junior college transfer Vinnie Shahid from Hopkins. Shahid has already been voted one of the two captains on the team.

"Certainly it catches you a little bit when you have someone in your program for three or four months by eight guys that have been around this program," Richman told WDAY Sports. "If you step back and look at the big picture it makes complete sense."

"I feel like my leadership skills are above average and I feel like I get to help guys going like Tyson Ward, Deng Geu and Cameron Hunter,"  Shahid said.
