MOORHEAD — One of two women charged with stealing mail in Moorhead was sentenced Monday, Oct. 15 in Clay County District Court. Amanda Joy Liebert, 31, Moorhead, was sentenced to five years of probation for one felony count of mail theft. Other charges were dropped as part of a plea deal. A co-defendant in the case, Cheryl Ann Gorden, 36, Moorhead, was earlier sentenced to serve 70 days in jail, with 295 additional days stayed for two years. She pleaded guilty to one gross misdemeanor count of theft and four felony counts of mail theft were dismissed.
MOORHEAD — A 20-year-old man is accused in Clay County District Court of distributing and possessing child pornography. Michael James Kinnen, Glyndon, Minn., is charged with one felony count of dissemination of child pornography and one felony count of possession of child pornography. According to court documents: A social media company alerted the Department of Homeland Security about a user possibly distributing child pornography through its application.
FARGO — North Dakota, along with the rest of the U.S., saw a significant drop in the number of refugees resettled in the state in 2018, Lutheran Social Services of North Dakota reported.
MOORHEAD — A Moorhead man is charged in Clay County District Court in connection with a burglary at a Moorhead residence in February. Alberto St. Martin Lopez, 52, is charged with three counts of first-degree burglary, according to court documents filed Thursday, Oct. 12. According to the court documents: Moorhead police were dispatched to a reported burglary in south Moorhead early in the morning on Feb. 14. A resident of the home told officers he and two other individuals were in his apartment when two men kicked in the door, court records show.
WEST FARGO — A West Fargo man faces an assault charge in Cass County District Court stemming from an attack outside a West Fargo bar in September. Thomas Robert Huus, of West Fargo, is charged with one Class C felony count of aggravated assault. According to court documents: About 11:57 p.m. on Sept. 28, police were dispatched to Bar Nine in West Fargo for a report of an assault. Officers found a man lying on the ground with his face bleeding. The victim's girlfriend told officers Huus had punched him several times in the face.
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — A 60-year-old man was injured in a rollover crash early Thursday, Oct. 11, when road conditions were snowy and icy, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
FARGO — While the first significant snowfall of the winter Wednesday, Oct. 10, covered the Fargo-Moorhead area in just over an inch of snow, other parts of North Dakota saw almost a foot. Wednesday’s precipitation was more liquid than snow in the Fargo-Moorhead area, which accumulated about 1.6 inches of snow. Grand Forks got about 6 inches while the area between Valley City, N.D., and Grand Forks received the brunt of heavy snowfall Wednesday.
MOORHEAD — The underpass project at the intersection of Main Avenue and 21st Street South in Moorhead will continue until about December, at which point major construction will stop for the winter. At a Moorhead Business Association meeting Tuesday, Oct. 10, Tom Trowbridge, assistant Moorhead city engineer, outlined the project's progress and provided a timeline for construction following a winter break. "The public won't see as much happening," Trowbridge said about construction during the cold months.
FARGO — North Dakota's roads, bridges and highways are in dire need of improvements, but the state still needs additional investments to fix the conditions, according to a report released Tuesday, Oct. 9. The report conducted by TRIP, a national transportation research group, said North Dakota is short $2.5 billion for infrastructure needs for projects dealing with aging highway and bridge conditions, road improvements and safety.
