GRAND FORKS—A Grand Forks man charged for firing shots in the Sam's Club parking lot during a "drug deal gone bad" and owning homemade bombs and marijuana plants pleaded guilty Thursday. Devon Michael Atticus Hricak, 21, will spend five years on probation after pleading guilty to four felony charges and a misdemeanor. District Judge Donald Hager said the situation "could've been a lot worse" and he's "surprised you weren't charged with attempted murder in this case."
FARGO—A Spirit Lake man will spend 60 years behind bars related to a gun assault and for shooting his ex-girlfriend in the face. Dakota James Charboneau, 24, is also accused in a separate case of murdering a woman in 2016. Court documents said Charboneau allegedly beat two men with the butt of his gun on the Spirit Lake Indian Reservation on Oct. 22, 2017. An affidavit also said he allegedly fired off several rounds and held the men against their will at a house after beating them.
WEST FARGO - A West Fargo man was arrested after he allegedly tried to break into several apartments early Friday morning. Jean Edward Roubideaux, 30, was allegedly going from door to door and checking patio doors of apartments on the 1700 block of 39th Street South around 1 a.m., Sgt. Matt Ysteboe said. When confronted by police, he lied about living in the apartments and Ysteboe said he had a crowbar and other burglary tools with him.
FARGO — Fargo police charged a man for attempting to burglarize a warehouse early Friday morning. Zachary Antoni Payne, 30, of Fargo was also charged for refusing to halt, Sgt. Matt Ysteboe said.
DEVILS LAKE—One of two Devils Lake residents accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a mentally impaired teen pleaded not guilty Thursday. Patrick Alan Leiphon, 52, entered the plea in Ramsey County District Court for five Class A felony charges of gross sexual imposition. Sherene A. Kraft, 50, who also faces the same charges, is scheduled to enter a plea Nov. 5.
MOORHEAD — A man heard a loud pop inside his Moorhead apartment and then found a large-caliber bullet on the floor and a hole in his wall Tuesday night, police said.
OTTER TAIL COUNTY, Minn. — A 38-year-old man is in critical condition after a motorcycle crash late Tuesday, Sept. 11, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
GRAND FORKS—A list of the best universities in the country ranked the University of North Dakota and North Dakota State University near the bottom third. U.S. News & World Report ranked UND 205th out of 312 national universities for 2019. The school ranked 112 out of 132 top public schools. The University of Minnesota-Crookston ranked second in regional colleges in the Midwest and has been among the best three schools for 22 years straight. NDSU was ranked at 215 in national universities and 121 in top public schools.
GRAND FORKS—A Grand Forks man accused of killing a 5-month-old girl will be held on a $100,000 bond, a judge ruled Monday. Family and friends of baby Brynley Rachelle Rymer crowded the courtroom Monday at the Grand Forks County Courthouse and muffled tears during Mason Matthew Kamrowski's hearing. He was arrested Friday and charged with the child's murder.
A 21-year-old man died Sunday after being treated for third-degree burns caused by hot tar during a truck crash, according to a press release from the North Dakota Highway Patrol. Bradley Jackson of Woodlands, Man., was driving eastbound Wednesday on Grand Forks County Road 7 east of Thompson, N.D., in a 2011 Peterbilt truck with a tanker trailer filled with hot tar, according to a release. The truck swerved to the right, landed on its side and spilled about 6,000 gallons of tar in the ditch and roadway, the release said.
